Healthy Garden Cafe, which has locations in Moorestown and Voorhees, will open another local eatery in Collingswood this Wednesday, July 17th with a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, July 19th. It will be located at 740 Haddon Avenue, joining an already exciting food scene in the borough.

It will be open daily; 9:00AM-9:00PM during the week, and 9:00AM-10:00PM on the weekends for dine-in, take-out, free delivery, and office/party catering.
I’m already a big fan of their Moorestown location so I will be sure to visit the new Collingswood location when it opens.
Maui’s Dog House in North Wildwood is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. The iconic hot dog stand at the popular Jersey shore town opened in 1999 with one mission: to provide families an inexpensive place to eat good food. Mission Accomplished!
The menu at Maui’s features over 20 different hot dog variations using German franks from Hofmann Sausage Company with a variety of toppings such as ground beef sauce, spicy mustard, beer-soaked kraut, bacon, cheese, and more. They also offer Black Angus Burgers, chicken cutlet sandwiches, sausage sandwiches, fried seafood, fresh cut French fries, and the famous “Salty Balls.” Something for everyone, even vegetarians — yes, they offer veggie dogs and vegan “chicken” cutlets, too!
Maui’s Dog House is a must visit for good eats in Wildwood! Open daily between 11 AM to 8 PM in season. Next time you’re in Wildwood, stop by 806 New Jersey Ave for a memorable foodie experience down the shore.
UPDATE DECEMBER 2019: Stone Fire Pizza, a fast-casual concept with small plates, pizza, and salads by Midici, is now open. No booze. Probably BYOB.
The California Pizza Kitchen in the Cherry Hill Mall has closed permanently. All social media pages have been removed and it’s no longer listed on the corporate website. We enjoyed a few meals there over the years, but I have to admit, the last time we went (earlier this year) it was pretty dead in there so I can’t say I’m surprised.
Cherry Hill pizza lovers need not fret. A new, modern restaurant specializing in “authentic” Neopolitan pizza will be opening later in the year.MiDici will be located between Bahama Breeze and the new Fatburger, across from Seasons 52. According to the website, it looks like a more upbeat place with a tight menu.
The restaurant features two, 1000-degree wood-fired pizza ovens showcased in the “heart” (center) of the restaurant which are handbuilt in Naples, Italy and brought here. I’m not really a pizza eater, but they seem to have other items on the menu that I’ll be able to partake in. No word on gluten-free pizza dough, which was a big draw for gluten-sensitive pizza lovers at CPK.
Bagelati Bagel & Gelato Ice Cafe opened this past Monday at 1096 Route 130 (at Riverton Rd) in Cinnaminson. The bagel and gelato spot (next to Dunkin’) will be open Monday-Saturday 6am-11pm and Sunday 7am-11pm. There’s lots of parking in the front and on the side. It’s bright and spacious inside with a lot of comfortable tables & chairs, including blue velvet couches and chairs, and some semi-private rooms. There’s outdoor seating, too.
Bagelati offers an assortment of the usual bagel suspects (plain, everything, sesame, poppy seed, cinnamon raisin, etc.) Bagels can be served as is or with a variety of cream cheeses. There’s also lots of breakfast and lunch sandwich options as well as omelettes. They also offer deli sandwiches, burgers, cheesesteaks, and hoagies. Seems like a well-rounded menu!
They’ve got a nice selection of tempting desserts and baked goods. I spotted favorites such as tiramisu, carrot cake, cheesecakes, chocolate cake, limoncello cake, creme brulee, various mousses, even a souffle and some parfaits! A nice place to get a sweet treat.
There’s about 20 or so flavors of gelato with a wide array of toppings. I spotted some fun flavors such as Snickers, Chips Ahoy, Tiramisu, Green Tea, just to name a few. They also make gelato pops or gelato on a stick.
I was so pleased to see that they have non-dairy/vegan gelato flavors, too. On this visit, they had vegan coconut, key lime, and blueberry gelato. I noticed they also had vegan dark chocolate, but it was empty. I tried the coconut and blueberry which were both very good and grabbed a large combo to go. I hope they rotate flavors frequently.
I noticed quite a few of the flavors were sold out actually. That could be upsetting especially if you had your heart set on a flavor as I did with the vegan dark chocolate. Sad face.
I enjoyed my turkey sausage, egg, and cheese on spinach bagel. A pretty decent value for $4.69. Hubby just had a plain buttered everything bagel which he liked. Next time, perhaps he’ll spring for the Nova Lox Deluxe ($9.99) with nova lox, cream cheese, lettuce, tomato, and capers.
Overall, I feel this is a great addition to the Cinnaminson dining scene. Much better than most breakfast options in the area, but probably not my favorite bagels. I’d like to try some of the deli sandwiches next time, though!
Skip the self-serve coffee. It wasn’t that great. Plus they didn’t offer any non-dairy creamer or soy milk. A must for lactose-intolerant people. Next time I will try one of their espresso bar drinks if they have soy or almond milk. They offer lattes, cappuccinos, etc.
It’s amazing to think how much money and effort they put into transforming the building from an old 7-Eleven into what it is now. I wish them lots of luck and we will definitely go back.

Located in the heart of Harvey Cedars, Plantation Restaurant & Bar is a sophisticated restaurant with a bright and inviting décor and an adventurous American menu. The restaurant which is open year-round completed a full renovation in summer 2017.
The new interior features vibrant and tropical colors with a hint of Miami Beach. Green and white frond leaf wallpaper, new lighting and flooring, and playful artwork brighten up the inside and create a fresh, welcoming and inspiring atmosphere.
For those that enjoy a great cocktail and live music, the energetic bar at Plantation incorporates an extensive menu of specialty cocktails – both classic and creative, as well as beers and wines.
One of the new drink additions is the Kinsey Cove, a 51 oz rum punch cocktail featuring Bacardi Dragonberry, Pineapple, Banana, and Coconut Rums with pineapple and cranberry juice, and topped off with prosecco. It is served in an oversized fishbowl-like glass with multiple colorful straws, perfect for sharing with friends! It will set you back $36, but it’s worth every penny!
The menu features traditional, down the shore favorites joined by inventive seasonal items that blend contemporary American beach flavors. They use only the finest and freshest items available from local fresh fish and seafood, but also offer great steaks and other specialties. Vegetarian dishes and a happy hour menu with drink specials round out the menu.
Everything we tried upon our recent visit had a stunning presentation and great flavor. This restaurant in Harvey Cedars on Long Beach Island executes fresh and delicious dishes thanks to Executive Chef Jeff Alberti, Director of Beverage Len Boris, and General Manager Pete Palladino.
There is live music throughout the week and acoustic artists on the weekends.
If you have plans to visit Long Beach Island this summer, put Plantation on the list of restaurants to dine at.
Update: Que Ricas will be opening on Wednesday, December 18th!
A new restaurant specializing in South American fare such as empanadas and arepas will be opening at 46A Haddon Avenue in Westmont in early October.
Que Ricas announced on Facebook today that it will be “opening soon” with “a menu that caters to meat lovers, vegans, and the gluten-free community as well as featuring many locally sourced and organic ingredients.”
Haddon Township resident Sahar Soleymani comes from a family who has been in the restaurant business for over 40 years. They owned and operated long-standing Skyler’s Hoagies in Mount Laurel until they sold it earlier this year.
Soleymani explains, “We have always done delis and cheesesteak places but it was time to have something that represents who we are, and serve food that we feel good serving to the community.”
The menu at Que Ricas will feature treasured recipes passed down on her mother’s side of the family.
In addition to traditional South American cuisine, they will be doing Philly/Latin twists like the “Jawn” which is a Philly cheesesteak empanada and will be working on a porkroll, egg and cheese arepa.
The space is currently under construction so they are targeting a grand opening sometime between August and October.
I’m pretty sure I’ve never had jackfruit before, but I kept hearing about how it’s a good, plant-based alternative to meat, especially as a vegan-friendly alternative to pulled pork and chicken.
Jackfruit has a mildly sweet flavor and a dense and fibrous “meaty” texture. While not packed with protein, it is very high in fiber. It’s also low carb and can be a vegan meat substitute for sweet or savory dishes.
It has become more popular as more and more restaurants are adding plant-based alternatives on their menus. One local restaurant offering a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes is Tortilla Press Cantina.
On that menu, they offer BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Tacos. They slow cook the jackfruit and then pull it, like pulled pork, and add a peanut chipotle bbq sauce, cabbage slaw, and pickled red onions. Most of the flavor comes from the bbq sauce, but 3 tacos were quite filling. They are served with rice and beans.
If you’re looking for more plant-based options in South Jersey, check out these jackfruit tacos and the rest of the veggie menu at the Tortilla Press Cantina located at 7716 Maple Avenue in Merchantville, NJ.
Valente’s Italian Specialties has launched Cilento Sandwich Co., Haddonfield’s first Virtual Restaurant. It will operate out of Valente’s storefront at 7 Kings Court
Proprietor Marcello De Feo explains, “A hole was left in Haddonfield when Angelo’s Pizzeria moved and Marie’s Sandwich Shop shut down. We’re opening Cilento to help fill that hole with fresh, authentic, house-made products using locally sourced ingredients.”
In addition to Cheesesteaks, Parms, Hoagies, and Salads, they will also offer specialty items like vegan options, Reubens from house-made pastrami, and Po’Boys.
