Rich’s Micro Roast Coffee is a separate business located within the Virtua Samson Cancer Center (VSCC) in Moorestown, NJ. This means that the Doctor’s, Nurses, staff, and visitors have all had the lion’s share when it comes to what Owner and operator, Rich Curry, has to offer. I’m hoping to change that by letting all of you know how amazing his coffee is, and that although Mr. Curry is not a chef–his sandwiches are well worth the visit too.
“I’m not a Chef, I’m just the architect of your culinary adventure!” stated an enthusiastic Rich Curry. He further explained that he likes to play with his menu and listens to feedback from his customers. He described that, “If I listen to what they [customers] like or what they think might go together then I can improve on my menu,” Curry explained.
As I spoke with Mr. Curry, I watched as he energetically took orders, cooked, and made caffeinated beverages for everyone who called or came in. Between moments where he served his customers, I was able to obtain a sandwich of my own: a version of his Reuben. It was made with Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, Aioli, and I asked to have his house-made coleslaw on top (keeping the Rye open). It was a bit messy (a good sign) and tasted wonderful–fair note: I dislike coleslaw, but I would go back for more of Rich’s!
Since he is a coffee roaster first, I paired my sandwich with what he calls a Slow Pull, which is something he came up with when he was playing around in the café. “It creates three layers within the coffee, and you can see how good the crema comes out,” stated Curry.
Rich Curry has been in the coffee roasting business for five years, supplying local restaurants and grocery stores with his delectable bags coffee. Wanting to expand his business, he decided to open a brick and mortar location where people could come in to enjoy his coffee. So in April of last year, Rich’s Micro Roast was opened inside of VSCC.
As a result of being a coffee roaster first, he takes pride in seeing the resulting crema (a layer of creamy tan froth that forms on the top of freshly made espresso) when he creates a caffeinated beverage. That foamy layer is a sign that not only was the bean roasted properly, but the process of how the barista pulled the caffeine from the espresso maker was also executed with perfect precision.
Impressed with how aromatic and smooth Mr. Curry’s coffee was, I made sure to take a bag of his whole bean home with me. Although Rich Curry will gladly grind the coffee beans for you, I chose to have them whole. After all, as an avid coffee drinker, I have a grinder at home and numerous appliances to make a nice ‘cup-o-joe.’ I fully plan to visit with Rich’s Micro Roast Coffee again, and I hope that you will too. It’s a perfect place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a pleasurable cup of coffee.
