One of South Jersey’s most recognizable seafood destinations is preparing to close its doors in Collingswood.
Bobby Chez Famous Crabcakes announced on social media that its longtime Collingswood location will be closing, marking the end of an era for a business that helped build a loyal following throughout the Delaware Valley.
Located at 33 W. Collings Avenue, the Collingswood store has been a fixture in the community for years, serving the brand’s signature jumbo lump crabcakes along with a menu of seafood specialties and prepared meals.
The Bobby Chez story dates back to 1997, when founder Robert “Bobby” Sliwowski launched the first store using a family crabcake recipe in Voorhees. Over the years, the business earned numerous accolades and expanded throughout South Jersey, becoming synonymous with quality seafood and convenient gourmet-to-go meals.
In recent years, ownership transitioned to Chef Dominick Leonetti III and his family, who have continued operating the beloved brand while making changes to several locations. Earlier this year, the Washington Township store relocated to Sicklerville, while other stores have closed in Delran and Newtown.
The closure of the Collingswood location represents another chapter in the evolution of the Bobby Chez brand. Despite the loss of the Camden County storefront, customers will still be able to enjoy Bobby Chez products at its remaining locations and through its online ordering and shipping services.
For many South Jersey residents, Bobby Chez has long been a go-to destination for high-quality family meals, and its famous crabcakes. The Collingswood store’s closing will undoubtedly bring a sense of sadness to those who came to depend on it.
For now, this will leave only two locations still open. One in Cherry Hill and the recently opened one in Sicklerville.
The final day of business in Collingswood is this Saturday, June 20. Additional details regarding the final day of operation and future plans were shared through the company’s social media channels. So, while this is goodbye at the W. Collings Avenue location, there is hope for another local shop to spring up at some point. Stay tuned!
