After weeks of questions, rumors, unanswered calls, and a little old-fashioned boots-on-the-ground investigating, it appears the question has finally been answered: Cacia’s of Haddonfield is permanently closed.
Rumors began circulating on Facebook after the longtime bakery and deli closed for what was initially described as a “vacation” a month ago or so. As the days passed without the shop reopening, people began wondering whether the closure might be more permanent.
I tried reaching out to Cacia’s several times to get confirmation. I sent messages through social media and email and called the Haddonfield location numerous times. The telephone number was still in service, but no one ever answered.
So, I stopped by the store myself.
There was still equipment inside, but the sign on the front door simply said “closed.” There was no mention of a vacation, no reopening date, and no “we’ll be back soon.”
By all appearances, it certainly looked like Cacia’s had closed permanently. Still, without confirmation from the business, I wasn’t ready to report that as fact.
Well, a simple Google search today finally provided the answer. Cacia’s Haddonfield is now listed as permanently closed.
While an official announcement from the owners would have been preferable, the combination of the extended closure, sign on the door, unanswered attempts to contact the business, and now its permanent-closure designation leaves little doubt that the Haddonfield location has reached the end of the road, even though the website still lists them as open.
Cacia’s is a well-known name in the Philadelphia and South Jersey food scene, particularly for its tomato pies, pizzas, breads, sandwiches, and other Italian bakery favorites. The Haddonfield shop brought that longtime tradition to one of South Jersey’s busiest downtown dining districts.
For customers who enjoyed stopping in, it’s an unfortunate loss. But good thing there are many other locations in South Jersey, including nearby Cherry Hill. Perhaps not as convenient, but open nonetheless, if you need a fix.
If Cacia’s provides any additional information about the Haddonfield closure, SJFS will update this story. Otherwise, sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
