Com Ga Houston Brings Vietnamese Chicken Rice, Acclaimed Pho to Merchantville/Pennsauken

Update! Com Ga Houston is now Pho Today as of 2/12.

Com Ga Houston, a growing mini-chain known for its Vietnamese chicken-and-rice specialties, has officially opened its first Northeast location in the Sun Seng Supermarket shopping center at 5201 Route 38. The debut marks an expansion beyond the brand’s Texas roots and introduces a familiar yet elevated Vietnamese dining concept to South Jersey.

Fun fact: Com means rice and Ga means chicken in Vietnamese. Hence, Com Ga means simply “chicken rice.”

The Merchantville location is led by managing partner and CEO John Nguyen, the brains behind the wildly successful Pho Today restaurant group. Nguyen’s involvement not only strengthens the operation but also expands the menu, bringing Pho Today’s widely praised pho noodle soups under the same roof as Com Ga Houston’s signature dishes.

Founded in Houston, Com Ga Houston has steadily grown with additional locations in Olathe, Kansas, and Duluth, Georgia. Its arrival in Camden County reflects both the area’s established Vietnamese community and the broader rise in popularity of Vietnamese cuisine across South Jersey. In recent years, the region has seen an influx of Vietnamese concepts, including the opening of Gai Chicken & Rice in Cherry Hill, signaling strong demand for the cuisine and various Vietnamese dishes.

At Com Ga Houston, traditional chicken-and-rice dishes anchor the menu, complemented by a selection of Vietnamese appetizers and entrées. Standouts include classics like bánh xèo, the crispy, savory Vietnamese crepe. What sets the Merchantville/Pennsauken location apart is the addition of Pho Today’s noodle soups, regarded as some of the best in the region.

“Pho Today is commonly recognized in the Vietnamese community as the best of the best,” Cherry Hill resident Nguyen told South Jersey Food Scene. “We’re thrilled to be offering both Com Ga Houston’s top-notch dishes as well as our famous pho noodle soups.”

Pho Today currently operates 9 locations across Philadelphia and Central Jersey, including one on Staten Island, and is known for offering hundreds of variations of pho and Vietnamese dishes. Nguyen brings that depth of experience to Com Ga Houston, where the combined concept aims to be a one-stop destination for authentic Vietnamese rice dishes and expertly crafted noodle soups.

The menu is intentionally concise and approachable, with reasonable prices and generous portions—qualities that are likely to resonate with both longtime fans of Vietnamese food and newcomers alike. Vietnamese coffees, smoothies, and desserts round out the menu.

With its blend of authenticity and quality, Com Ga Houston’s opening adds another compelling chapter to South Jersey’s evolving Vietnamese food scene.
