Cooking Up a Cure: Haddon Culinary Meal Kit Sale to Fight ALS

Haddon Culinary, in partnership with Salem County Vocational Technical School, is once again spearheading Cooking Up a Cure, Inc.—a heartfelt fundraising initiative dedicated to supporting ALS United Mid-Atlantic. This year, their goal is to raise $15,000 through the sale of their beloved family meal kits, continuing a tradition that brings South Jersey communities together for a vital cause.

In 2024, over 200 families across South Jersey joined the effort—and in 2025, the campaign wants to make an even more substantial impact.

Honoring Mentor and Friend: Chef Guy Dunagan

At the core of this initiative lies a touching tribute to Chef Guy Dunagan, a mentor and friend whose legacy continues to inspire:

  • A Culinary Institute of America graduate (1977), Chef Dunagan’s early career included roles with Hyatt Hotels and pivotal culinary contributions at the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City.
  • He specialized in European pastry, sugar artistry, and showpiece design, honed through mentorships and even time spent training in Switzerland.
  • He rose through the ranks to become Executive Pastry Chef at Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino, during its peak years.
  • Chef Dunagan stepped away from the high-pressure culinary world to become a teacher, finding fulfillment in mentoring students through Salem County Vocational School and Atlantic County Institute of Technology.
  • His contributions earned him numerous accolades, including ACF Gold Medals, a Cutting Edge Award from the National American Culinary Federation, and multiple “Teacher of the Year” titles.
  • Even after retiring due to ALS, Chef Dunagan remains deeply engaged as an Advisory Board member for the Salem County Board of Education—a testament to his ongoing dedication to culinary education and his community.
