Starting this year, visitors to White Horse Winery can look forward to savoring delectable wood-fired dishes from Home Fired Pizza. The food truck will be stationed at the winery during its operating hours from Thursday through Sunday, offering a perfect culinary complement to the winery’s renowned selection of wines.
Frank Hesson, who previously operated Home Slice Pizza in Mount Holly, which garnered rave reviews for its 850-degree wood-fired oven pizza, said that location on Madison Avenue is now permanently closed. He is now focusing on exciting new ventures, including this partnership with White Horse Winery, a food truck at Gloucester Premium Outlets, and running the food service at The Craft at Dredge Harbor in Delran (a members-only seasonal bar).
From Golf Greens to Gourmet Pizza
At 51, Frank has mastered the art of reinvention. After spending 28 years as a golf instructor, he retired in 2021 to pursue his passion for cooking.
Frank’s culinary adventure began humbly, making pizzas for friends and family in his backyard. Their enthusiastic feedback became the catalyst for his career change. Frank joked in an interview with South Jersey Food Scene, “My friends and family said if I could putt like I make pizza, I would have won the Masters Tournament.”
Hailing from Marlton, Frank is a proud alumnus of Cherokee High School and Burlington County Community College. His love for cooking was nurtured early on by two influential women: his grandmother, Anna Santarpio, and his mother, Roseanne. “I have always loved to cook,” Frank shared. “Now at FMH Catering, we have a simple concept with fresh ingredients, using family recipes.”
Toby Devore, Hospitality Manager at White Horse Winery, expressed excitement about the winery’s new collaboration with Hesson, saying, “We are thrilled to partner with Frank as our exclusive food truck operator and feed our guests delicious wood-fired food alongside our award-winning wines.”
