Home Team Tavern Mt. Ephraim NJ

Home Team Tavern Bringing Elevated Sports Bar to Mount Ephraim, NJ

A new neighborhood gathering spot is preparing to open at 267 S. Black Horse Pike in Mount Ephraim. Home Team Tavern aims to combine a lively sports atmosphere with elevated comfort food and a welcoming vibe.

Located at the former Mt. Ephraim Bar & Tavern, the new concept is the vision of Moorestown resident Greg Bernstein. After years in the hospitality industry, Bernstein is finally bringing his dream to life.

Experienced Hospitality Veteran Leads the Project

Bernstein has spent decades working in restaurants and entertainment venues. He operates North Bowl and South Bowl in Philadelphia. Before that, he served as general manager of Elephant and Castle.

However, he always wanted to own a neighborhood bar with quality food and a friendly atmosphere. When the Mount Ephraim property became available, he quickly seized the opportunity.

According to the restaurant’s Google Business profile, Home Team Tavern is an elevated sports-centric gastropub. The concept focuses on affordable food and drinks for dine-in, takeout, and delivery. In addition, the tavern hopes to become a headquarters for good vibes and memorable experiences.

Gluten-Friendly Menu Designed With Celiac Diners in Mind

One feature that sets Home Team Tavern apart is its commitment to gluten-friendly options.

Bernstein and several members of his family, including himself, have Celiac disease. As a result, menu development has focused heavily on creating choices that gluten-sensitive guests can enjoy.

The menu offers plenty of variety. Guests can expect appetizers, wings, pizzas, sandwiches, burgers, hand-cut fries, tacos, and mac and cheese.

Meanwhile, sushi rolls will provide an unexpected addition to the sports bar menu.

Perhaps the most surprising offering is the crepe selection. Home Team Tavern plans to serve both savory and sweet crepes made with gluten-free batter. Those items are rarely found in traditional neighborhood taverns.

Although the draft beer selection will remain small, guests will still find familiar favorites.

Michelob ULTRA and Yuengling Lager will be available on tap. He’s hopeful to eventually add local craft beers to the rotation. In addition, bottled beer choices will make up much of the beverage menu.

Cocktail lovers will also have plenty of options. Besides handcrafted drinks, Home Team Tavern plans to feature four draft cocktails. That approach is not something diners commonly see in local bars.

Small, But Mighty Bar Situation

Inside, the bar takes center stage. Smaller tables surround the room, creating an intimate and comfortable setting.

Eight televisions line the outer walls. Sports fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch the game from nearly every seat.

The atmosphere is designed to feel lively yet welcoming. Bernstein envisions a neighborhood destination where friends and families can gather year-round.

Outdoor Patio and Plenty of Parking

A secluded patio sits behind the building. Eventually, the outdoor area will include tables and games, providing another space for guests to relax.

Parking should not be an issue. The property offers ample space on the left side and the rear of the building, making access for visitors easy.

The Team Behind the Tavern

Home Team Tavern expects to employ about ten people. Six employees will work front of house, while four team members will handle kitchen operations.

Among the bartenders will be Bernstein’s daughter, Meghan, who will add a personal touch to the family-oriented business.

Kitchen Manager Chef Luis Garcia’s Bio

Chef Luis Garcia is a classically trained culinary professional and a 2017 graduate of the Accelerated Certificate Program at The Culinary Institute of America (Hyde Park). As the foundational opening Sous Chef for Beacon 70 in New Jersey, he has extensive experience engineering back-of-house workflows and managing high-stakes kitchen operations. Garcia specializes in upscale casual Roman Italian cuisine, pairing technical expertise in whole-animal butchery with the delicate craftsmanship of scratch, hand-rolled pasta. An education-first leader, he combines system precision with a strong focus on staff mentorship to deliver an intentional, unforgettable guest experience.

Opening Plans for Early July

The restaurant is currently awaiting its final inspection from the Camden County Health Department.

If everything proceeds as planned, Home Team Tavern hopes to hold soft openings on July 2 and July 3. The restaurant will then close for the Fourth of July holiday.

Regular operations are expected to begin on Tuesday, July 7.

Should those plans change, updated information will follow on their Instagram account.

Can’t wait for Home Team Tavern to say “Play ball!”
