There’s a changing of the guard — or perhaps a passing of the wok — at Hong Kong Fusion at 1998 Marlton Pike East in Cherry Hill.
Longtime owner Peter Chen has retired from the restaurant after 17 years, handing the reins over to another familiar name in the South Jersey restaurant scene.
The new owner is Chef Lin, who previously was a partner in Elena Wu’s restaurants, Chez Elena Wu in Voorhees and Tres Elena Wu in Mount Laurel.
For fans of Hong Kong Fusion, the good news is that Chef Lin plans to continue serving the Chinese favorites customers have come to know and love. However, he’ll also be putting his own stamp on the restaurant with a notable addition: a new sushi bar.
It should make for an interesting new chapter for the restaurant, maintaining what has worked while expanding the menu with another popular Asian cuisine.
When Will Hong Kong Fusion Reopen?
The restaurant was originally expected to reopen under its new ownership and renovations on September 1, but that date has now passed.
As of now, a new reopening date has not been announced. So, if you’ve driven by wondering when you’ll be able to get back inside, stay tuned.

Peter Chen Isn’t Completely Going Away
While Peter may be retiring from the restaurant business, he’s not retiring from his passion for Pu’erh tea or the special tea service he’s offered over the years.
The restaurant may be changing hands, but Peter promises his private tea house experience will continue… somewhere. What Peter has planned for his Pu’erh tea service deserves a story of its own, and we’ll have more on that soon.
For now, congratulations to Peter on his retirement and to Chef Lin as he begins the next chapter of Hong Kong Fusion in Cherry Hill. We’ll share more information soon.
