A Visit to Mikan Sando Sushi Bento

Mikan Sando Sushi Bento is a hidden gem along Route 73. Its wide variety of menu offerings, paired with quick and friendly service, makes this Japanese spot well worth adding to your travel plans.

I went there with one particular sweet treat in mind: the strawberry sando. Originating in Japan, fruit sandos became popular worldwide for their photogenic look, with clean cross sections that showcase fresh fruit. They’ve taken over my feed lately, and I’ve watched people take soft, satisfying bites overflowing with fluffy cream. Think of it as a strawberry shortcake in sandwich form. The whipped cream is light and airy, tucked between pillowy slices of Japanese milk bread. It was just as delicious as I imagined.

After enjoying something sweet, I moved on to something savory. At $5.50, the tuna roll is an excellent value, and the fish tasted fresh and tender. It was the perfect quick snack before tackling holiday errands. I kept it classic this time, but the menu offers specialty rolls I’m excited to try on my next visit.

No meal feels complete without a drink, and Mikan’s drinks are reason enough to visit. The menu includes teas, smoothies, and more, all served in one large size and customizable with your choice of topping. I recommend adding lychee jelly; it adds a sweet, subtle floral note and a pleasant chew to each sip, making it a delightful way to round out the meal.
