The Rusty Nail in Cape May is gearing up for a sizzling summer Smokin’ Tuesdays. This trademark tradition has moved from Mondays and will begin Tuesday, May 28, taking place every Tuesday through August 27.
Hosted by esteemed Executive Chef and Grill Master Jimmy Burton, this weekly event is a favorite of locals and seasonal visitors, and honors the farm-to-table philosophy of the Cape Resorts restaurants.
Smokin’ Tuesday treats guests to a delicious meal of succulent roasted pig served with baked beans, corn on the cob, coleslaw, and cornbread.
The southern-inspired flair is a signature of Chef Jimmy’s cooking, and he carefully prepares his dishes to enhance the natural flavors of the food. The pig that will be roasted each week comes from the property’s own farm, Beach Plum Farm, located just down the road.
The farm-raised pig comes dressed and is then brined and seasoned onsite before being placed in the charcoal cooker, roasting for about 8 hours. This one-of-a-kind offering is more than just a mouthwatering meal; it’s an event steeped in tradition and generations of culinary expertise.
Chef Jimmy is a Cape May local legend known for his barbecuing, and with good reason. He comes from a long line of chefs dating all the way back to his grandmother who was a cook at the Chalfonte Hotel for 77 years. His mother and aunt are also no strangers to the kitchen, and both worked at the same hotel for over 70 years.
As a young boy, Chef Jimmy watched and learned from the best as he honed his culinary skills and talents, taking his knowledge from Johnson and Wales culinary school to various restaurants in the Cape May area, finding his home at The Rusty Nail in 2010 where he was named Executive Chef.
The Rusty Nail, an iconic surfer bar and restaurant, is family (and pup)-friendly and offers guests a laidback vibe with indoor and outdoor dining, fire pits, and live music.
The Rusty Nail is located at 205 Beach Avenue, Cape May, NJ 08204.
