Congratulations to Jay’s Elbow Room at 2806 Route 73 in Maple Shade (Burlington County) for being inducted into the South Jersey Food Scene Hall of Fame!

Jay’s Elbow Room is a legendary South Jersey dive bar. It’s been around since 1948! It started by Joshua Cohen, who then passed it on to his son Sam Cohen. Sam sold it in 1978 (after 30 years of Cohen ownership) to Don and Ina Mann. Current owner is daughter Pattie Michaux and her husband Tommy. FYI – “Jay” the namesake is still with us. More about that soon!
But let’s not forget that this dive bar also has great bar food, friendly service, and the prices are very reasonable.
Upon our recent visit, we had the awesome hot wings and onion rings.
The beer menu is frequent rotating and updated on Untapped.

I label this photo “If this bar could talk!” because it’s likely seen tens (hundreds?) of thousands of customers. I mean can you imagine the conversations and shenanigans that have occurred over the past 77 years?

Jay’s Elbow Room has more than deserved its entry into the SJFS Hall of Fame. Here’s to 77 more years! If you’re a fan of dive bars with good pub grub, Jay’s is a must.
Feel free to share your fondest memories in the comments.

Please note: this is a fun project that the editor of South Jersey Food Scene (who runs this site very part time) started in 2023 and will contribute to as time allows.
There are SO MANY deserving entries into the Hall of Fame and, knock on wood, we’ll get to all of them over time. Do not be offended if you don’t see a spot added yet. Give us time!
