In Burlington Township, a quiet but meaningful transition is underway—one that blends legacy, resilience, and a new generation of operators ready to carry the torch.
After years of serving the community, The Bagel Zone has officially closed its doors. The modest storefront at 1702 Mount Holly Road, long known as a go-to for quick breakfasts, coffee, and classic Jersey bagel sandwiches, had built a steady local following with its no-frills approach and familiar menu of egg sandwiches, spreads, and deli staples.
The location is set to reopen under a new name, Burlington Bagel & Grill, ushering in a fresh chapter led by a growing South Jersey bagel family. The new ownership group, headed by Charlie Levach and his family, is already familiar to local diners through their expanding footprint, including Chesterfield Bagel & Grill and Hamilton Bagel & Grill.
Levach, alongside his brother Nick, launched Chesterfield Bagel & Grill in 2024 and, before that, Hamilton Bagel & Grill in 2018, quickly establishing both as dependable breakfast and lunch destinations rooted in consistency, quality, and community. Their approach—family-operated, locally grounded, and approachable menu—has positioned them as a rising player in the regional bagel scene.
After many years in the business, Joe Gilbert made the difficult decision to sell The Bagel Zone due to health concerns. It was a beloved neighborhood fixture. A reliable spot where locals counted on it for their morning rituals. Long-time fans will be sad to hear it has closed.
However, Burlington Bagel & Grill aims to uphold Gilbert’s legacy; preserving the welcoming spirit and dependable service that made The Bagel Zone special.
As Burlington Bagel & Grill prepares to open its doors on or near May 8th, it expects to honor the foundation built by The Bagel Zone while introducing a whole new experience by a family who is deeply committed to the food business.
