A new hot dog joint is coming to Maple Shade.
Bilsana Kolenovic moved to South Jersey from New York in 2001. She worked at local bank branches for many years. Most recently, she was the Assistant Vice President Branch Manager at Citizens Bank in Maple Shade.
When she saw “for rent” sign go up next to Dr. Brewlittle’s (behind Shine Power Yoga and Grounded Coffee), she jumped on it. You see, it had been a dream for many years to run a hot dog spot! Yes, really.
That was one thing she missed the most about living in New York. Especially “dirty water” dogs. The colloquial phrase “dirty water” refers to the water that the hot dogs are boiled in. It is seasoned with various spices, giving it a dark and cloudy appearance, and adding flavor to the hot dogs. They’ll also employ the use of a roller to cook the hot dogs.
“I am certain the Maple Shade area will embrace The Dog House,” Kolenovic told South Jersey Food Scene. “I even dragged my brother (Abi Mackic) from New York last month to start this journey with me. We’re excited to start slinging glizzies!”
The Dog House will feature Snapp-O-Razzo variety dogs, kielbasa and sausage. They’ll also offer tater tots, pickles on a stick, and loaded nachos.
Perfect comfort food for beer drinkers at Dr. Brewlittle’s which has recently completed its new outdoor bar area. The Dog House is adjacent to the brewery, accessible along a walkway from either Main Street or the parking area in the back of the building.
Kolenovic noted, “Chris Torre (owner of Dr. Brewlittle’s) and I share a common thread in that we both want to have fun alongside our careers.” Having food located so close to the brewery makes a lot of sense, but since microbreweries cannot serve food, this is the next best thing.
Work is in progress readying the space, but they are hopeful of being open by September. Which may just coincide with the opening of Dr. Brewlittle’s new outdoor bar area.
Dr. Brewlittle’s co-Founder Jack O’Connell told South Jersey Food Scene, “Yeah, we’re excited to welcome customers to our new outdoor area. We’re just waiting for the go-ahead, which we hope is around our 5th Anniversary celebration in September. Between the brewery, Grounded Coffee, and The Dog House, it’ll give folks more reason to come visit us here in Maple Shade.”
