The Little Hen Haddonfield

Candlelight Shopping and French Fare Create a Magical Night in Downtown Haddonfield

Downtown Haddonfield is absolutely shimmering with seasonal charm during its annual Candlelight Shopping event. This festive evening became the perfect backdrop for a long-anticipated culinary experience at The Little Hen, the acclaimed French BYOB on Kings Highway.

With twinkling lights illuminating the historic district, the evening began with dinner at the intimate bistro at the corner of Kings Highway and Haddon Avenue, which has quietly built a loyal following for its refined cuisine and warm hospitality. From the first course to the final dessert, every detail delivered on high expectations.

Dinner opened with a selection of classic French starters, including rich chicken liver pâté, briny olives, and earthy mushroom toast—each thoughtfully plated, imparting satisfying depth of flavor and preparing our palates for our next courses.

For the main course, the Duck Frites were absolutely delectable, featuring flawlessly cooked tender duck, crisp fries, and Banyuls aioli. While the Filet Mignon, prepared to an exacting medium-rare temperature, impressed just as strongly. On the side, roasted carrots with hazelnuts were a delightful counterpoint to the rich entrees.

Behind the scenes, the kitchen is led by Master Chef Alan Lichtenstein, alongside his sous chef, Mac, whose precision and craftsmanship were evident in every dish that left the pass. The experience concluded on a sweet note with coffee and a silky crème brûlée, a fitting finale to an already memorable meal.

Last night was the only night of Candlelight Shopping in Downtown Haddonfield we could do all month, so we decided to make a full evening of it by dining at a restaurant I’ve wanted to try for a long time: The Little Hen on Kings Highway. This French restaurant is absolutely wonderful. Everything was on point from the food to the service in an intimate atmosphere. We enjoyed chicken liver pate, olives, and mushroom toast to start, followed by the Duck Frites (for me) and Filet Mignon (for him). Cooked to perfection by masterful Chef Chef Alan Lichtenstein and his sous chef Mack. Ended with coffee and creme brulee. If you haven’t visited yet, please do. Downtown Haddonfield is so magical this time of year, too. ✨ #TheLittleHen #DowntownHaddonfield #frenchfood #frenchrestaurant #southjerseyfoodscene
