MARCH UPDATE: A firm date has been set for the Westmont’s reopening. It will be this Thursday, March 12th per a recent social media post. Making it almost a year to the date its been closed. Can’t wait to see what changes they made!
After a lengthy closure following a devastating kitchen fire in March 2025, The Westmont — formerly known as The Westmont Diner — is set to reopen its doors in the middle of January, if all goes well. But as we all know, dates are fluid, and subject to change due to forces outside of their control. But let’s keep our finger crossed that it’s coming very soon!
For decades, the diner has been a cherished local eatery, known for hearty comfort food, friendly service, and a welcoming atmosphere. The closure last year left many regulars disappointed but optimistic as owners worked tirelessly to restore the property to its former glory.
In the early morning hours of March 26, 2025, a fire broke out in the kitchen of the Westmont Diner, located at 572 West Cuthbert Boulevard in Haddon Township. Fire crews responded around 1:30 a.m., ultimately containing the blaze to the kitchen and roof area. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. However, the damage was significant enough to force the diner to close indefinitely as reconstruction was planned.
Initially, the diner’s owners hoped repairs would take only a few weeks, but subsequent assessments extended the closure to an estimated 3 to 6 months. During this period, the restaurant launched a GoFundMe campaign to support staff who were temporarily out of work and to help cover ongoing costs while the restoration unfolded.
Though the road back was longer than expected, the community’s support never wavered. Loyal patrons shared well-wishes on social media, and locals eagerly awaited updates. As the diner’s kitchen was rebuilt and structural repairs completed, the owners used this moment not just to restore but also to refresh the brand and identity.
In anticipation of the reopening, The Westmont Diner was rebranded to simply The Westmont. This updated name reflects a renewed sense of purpose while honoring the diner’s deep roots in South Jersey. Under the same family ownership that has long been part of the community, The Westmont promises the same favorite classics — from all-day breakfast to comforting lunch and dinner options — served with the warm hospitality that regulars have come to love.
The reopening in mid-January marks a fresh chapter for The Westmont and its fans. After months of anticipation and hard work, guests will get to see the newly updated eatery and enjoy great food in the new year.
