Uncle G's Cheesesteaks to open in Maple Shade

Uncle G’s Cheesesteaks Prepares Opening in Maple Shade

A new cheesesteak spot is opening in Maple Shade.

Uncle G’s Cheesesteaks is preparing to open at 400 E. Main Street, occupying one of two storefronts inside a relatively new building located at the corner of Main Street and Chestnut Avenue. The building was constructed last year, making it one of the newest commercial additions in town.

SJFS reached out for additional information, and learned more about the story of this new cheesesteak shop inspired by family restaurants of the past, and an anticipated opening timeframe. Keep reading for that.

Owner Konstantinos “Gus” Bekas told South Jersey Food Scene that Uncle G’s Cheesesteaks is a combination of family history, hard work, and bringing something meaningful back to life.

“My family’s roots in the food business go back to 1969 when my father immigrated from Greece and started in the restaurant industry,” Bekas said. “I grew up around pizza shops, kitchens, and small family businesses where everything revolved around consistency, pride, and treating customers right. Those lessons stuck with me.”

Furthermore, he said the idea behind Uncle G’s is simple: bringing things back to the way they used to be done with quality ingredients, and pride in the craft.

What’s made the project even more meaningful is the building itself. Bekas purchased a 100 year old building that had fallen into serious disrepair.

For decades, the former Oakwood Uniform & Equipment produced uniforms for police, firefighters, EMTs, and other service industries across the country. Instead of tearing it down, he decided to fully restore it and bring it back to life.

The team has been documenting the entire transformation process, recently launching a video series called “Follow The Build” to give people a behind-the-scenes look at the restoration of the building and the journey toward opening the restaurant.

At the core of the Uncle G’s concept is the slogan “The Return Of The OG,” a philosophy centered around bringing back authenticity, craftsmanship, and a commitment to doing things the right way.

As for the food, and according to the menu descriptions, the Uncle G’s centers around classic Philadelphia-style cheesesteaks made with 100% ribeye, Cooper Sharp cheese melted directly into the meat, and served on seeded rolls. The shop also emphasizes hand-cut fries made fresh from whole potatoes rather than frozen products. Furthermore, the focus is on “no shortcuts ever,” using real ingredients.

The combination of ribeye, Cooper Sharp, and seeded bread has become increasingly popular among modern cheesesteak purists, especially as more shops move toward premium ingredients and traditional preparation methods.

As an opening day gets closer this year, Uncle G’s recently launched both Facebook and Instagram pages, where it is expected to share construction progress, menu previews, and opening announcements in the coming weeks.

Bekas indicated that if all goes well, Uncle G’s Cheesesteaks would see a Fall 2026 opening.

For now, cheesesteak fans will have to stay patient and keep their eyes peeled on the social media pages for updates. Between the prominent corner location and a menu focused on fresh-cut fries and ribeye cheesesteaks, this is already shaping up to be a spot many Maple Shade locals and cheesesteaks lovers can get excited about.

Of course, updates will also be shared here as they become available. Are you excited about another cheesesteak shop in South Jersey?
