These eye-catching sweets feature shiny chocolate shells, mousse fillings, fruit purées, and intricate pastry work that mimics real fruit.
The viral dessert craze traces back to French pastry chef Cédric Grolet and the growing popularity of ultra-realistic pastries online. These desserts are now among the biggest bakery trends in the country, with shops nationwide seeing lines form for the photogenic treats.
This topic has come up several times in the Facebook group. While options are still limited, at least one bakery in each of Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester counties now offers these intricate desserts. They are sometimes called “crunchies” or crunchy fruit pastries due to the shell covering the pastry.
