Wildfether Distilling opened in May of 2023 and, by all accounts, is a resounding success. Not only is Wildfether a distillery of fine spirits, but it offers two floors of tasting room experiences… in a dry town no less!
Owner Tommy Alfinto (along with his wife Dana) turned a passion for whiskey into a distillery that now produces and bottles of whiskey, vodka, and gin that are allowed to be consumed right there. Not to mention, they make many other scratch-made ingredients (syrups, infusions, even bitters) used in their hand-crafted cocktails.
Since they are not permitted to serve food, you are free to bring your own food into the establishment and eat there while you drink, OR they have bottled cocktails to go that you can take with you to one of the many amazing BYOB restaurants in Haddonfield.
We recently stopped by to finally experience it for ourselves and were impressed by what they’re doing there. The building is two stories (one bar per floor) with outdoor areas on both floors, too. It tends to fill up on the weekends, so reservations are recommended. But if there are seats available, they’ll take walk-ins. They have added a heated igloo on the 2nd floor outdoor deck, which was in use during our visit.
The bartenders are friendly and fun to watch as they make and shake the cocktails right in front of you. I failed to get a photo/video of the action but you can tell the care that goes into making each drink.
The current menu features 7 classic cocktails (available any time), and 6 winter season cocktails that will run through the beginning of March. They’ve introduced a couple new fun cocktails for Valentine’s Day which will run until 2/16 (see below). Then new Spring cocktails will be added in March sometime.
This comprehensive article which appeared on 42 Freeway when Wildfether first opened includes many details there about the history, the owners, the location, and the products. Along with a lot of great photos.
Tommy is living his dream and this small business now employs around 20 full- and part-time people, including managers, mixologists, bartenders, and servers. That’s impressive!
If you’re a fan of locally-made spirits, Wildfether is a must visit!
