Haute Dog in Haddonfield Sets Soft Opening Date

A new culinary concept is gearing up to sizzle on Kings Highway as Haute Dog, the first restaurant venture by Moorestown native Matt McMahon and his sister Meghan Bing, prepares to roll out a menu that blends global hot dog influences with local sensibility.

Keep reading for the opening date!

While elevated and traditional hot dogs are their signature offerings, they will also offer a few other homemade sandwiches and introduce some pre-made heat-and-eat family-favorite foods that will be available in a grab-and-go case later on.

The name Haute Dogs playfully references “haute cuisine,” which is characterized by high-quality food in the tradition of French cuisine.

Nestled in a once-dilapidated basement space at 211 Kings Highway in Haddonfield, the Haute Dog storefront has undergone a dramatic transformation. With creative direction from Benita Cooper Design, the previously neglected lower-level venue has been reimagined into a cozy, elevated subterranean restaurant.

McMahon’s vision centers on reinterpreting the classic hot dog through a globally influenced lens featuring unique toppings and housemade sauces inspired by both continental and regional American tastes.

The European-style “Haute Dogs” feature Sabrett 6/1 all-beef franks stuffed in a Ba Le Bakery baguette, traditionally used for banh mi sandwiches.

There are currently five in the line-up: The Parisian (with spicy mustard), Mac’s Dog (with Matt’s homemade chili, onions, and spicy mustard), Some Like It Haute (with melted brie cheese and hot pepper jelly), Philly Dilly (cream cheese/sour cream based pickle dip and a side of crushed potato chips for dipping), and Horsefeathers (creamy horseradish sauce and Dijon mustard).

Each baguette is hallowed out and toasted from the inside out using a European Bread Warmer, which is specially designed machine for that purpose.

Since they have to cut off one end of the baguette to hollow it out for the Haute Dogs, they repurpose that end to make slider sandwiches. Currently, there is one slider sandwich available, Annie’s Sammies: a family-recipe meatball and homemade gravy (red sauce) slider. Another one Sausage and Pepps, with sausage, peppers, and onions, will be added soon.

The traditional ballpark-style hot dogs feature Sabrett 8/1 all-beef frank served on a Martin’s potato bun. Customers can choose from a variety of toppings, cheeses, and condiments to create their preferred dog, hence the name “That’s My Dog.”

There’s also a plain hot dog for the kids.

Potato chips, housemade coleslaw, and a variety of Fishtown Pickles are available as sides.

Freshly baked Famous 4th Street Cookies will satisfy your sweet tooth.

With its creative concept and quirky location, Haute Dog will become a must-try spot for elevated comfort eats in Haddonfield.

The soft opening is scheduled for the weekend of Saturday, September 6, and Sunday, September 7. A soft opening will continue after, with days and hours posted every Wednesday until they’re up to speed and operating for regular hours.
