Julio’s Casa de la Birria in Washington Township is proving that a focused menu and authentic execution are all you need. Located at Echo Plaza on Fries Mill Road, this fast-casual Mexican spot in Sewell has taken its flagship, full-service location in Vineland and adapted it to a quick-serve format in a busy shopping center.
The Sewell location builds on the success of the original Julio’s on Main in Vineland, bringing a proven concept to an area seeking more authentic Mexican options. There’s no over-the-top design or oversized menu here—just a clear focus on doing its cuisine exceptionally well.
The menu keeps things simple, offering appetizers, empanadas, tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and salads. It’s quick, efficient, and designed more for takeout than dining in, though a small dining area for 20 is available. You order at the counter, take your seat, and they’ll bring it out to you.
Julio’s has earned a well-deserved reputation for its birria—tender, slow-braised brisket infused with deep, rich flavor in every bite. The dish’s acclaim is evident in its numerous recognitions and the loyal following of guests who travel great distances to experience it.
The birria menu goes well beyond traditional birria tacos, with the slow-braised meat featured in quesadillas and burritos, layered over nachos, and even reimagined as a birria cheesesteak!
Beyond the birria, the Mexican street corn has also become a standout. Available both on the cob (elotes) and off the cob (esquites) as a side, the dish transforms a simple ingredient with a rich blend of mayonnaise, crema, and lime juice, finished with a sprinkle of Tajín. The result is a delicious, well-balanced side that customers can’t get enough of.
Owners Cesar and Christine Hernandez bring years of restaurant experience to their venture. As independent business owners, they’re crafting a mini Mexican food empire with two thriving locations and a food truck that brings their flavors to festivals and food events across the region. The entire family is involved, with several of their children pitching in.
Julio’s Casa de la Birria stands out not by trying to be everything, but by delivering bold, traditional flavor in a straightforward, approachable way. And in South Jersey’s evolving food scene, that’s exactly what keeps people coming back. Here’s to Julio’s continuing to expand on its delicious birria empire!
