UPDATE: K-Towne Kitchen is opening on Saturday, November 11.
Paul and Sun Kang are no strangers to running food businesses. They operated Frank’s Deli in Camden for nearly 40 years. It was a traditional deli/sandwich shop, but in March 2022, it was time for them to take a break.
“Frank’s was a thriving business even through Covid, and we had great relationships with our customers that we consider family,” The Kangs told South Jersey Food Scene. “But after 40 years, we felt it was time to move on. We sold the business and took some time off after the sale, which was long overdue considering the hours we put it into with minimal time off.”
After a short time off, they were “called” back to the food business. They were ready to return to making people happy with their food, so when the opportunity to open a stand in the Berlin Mart popped up, they took it.
Sunny Kitchen operated in the Berlin Mart for about a year, primarily offering Korean foods like corn dogs, Korean fried chicken, and American favorites like cheesesteaks and hoagies. It was doing well, but due to “lease issues,” they felt it was best to find a new location.
And find a new location, they did! They’ll open K-Towne Kitchen at 888 Union Mill Road (previously Toasted) in Mount Laurel, offering an expanded menu of Korean-based foods and American favorites. They’re bringing the best-selling corn dogs and fried chicken — they’re also adding kimbap, ramen, dumplings, and bubble tea!
There will be 14 seats inside for indoor eating and some outdoor dining. Takeout is always available. And they will have DoorDash for delivery initially and possibly add in-house delivery down the road.
Construction on the outdoor dining area is finishing soon, and they expect final inspections in the coming weeks, which would make a possible opening date sometime in November. Stay tuned for that date as soon as we get it!
Get excited for more good Korean eats, South Jersey!
