Introducing La Oaxaquena — a vibrant new food truck recently debuted at Cooper River Park in Pennsauken serving Mexican food. At the helm are Daniela and Felix Martinez, who have worked in the food industry for over 15 years. While their food service journey began many years ago, this marks their first foray into business ownership.
Amidst the challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic, Daniela and Felix recognized an opportunity to share their food with South Jersey via private orders from their base in Pennsauken. Their mouthwatering offerings quickly garnered a devoted following. Orders began pouring in from eager patrons hailing from all over the region.
Encouraged by their initial success and driven by an unyielding passion of their native cuisine, the duo boldly decided in late 2022—to embark on the ambitious journey of establishing a food truck.
Meticulous planning began in early 2023 with countless hours dedicated to securing a truck, refining their menu, and tending to every aspect of building their business. Finally, with permits secured and health inspections completed in the Spring, they began scouting prime locations.
After months of preparation —the long-awaited soft opening took place this past Saturday at Cooper River Park. The air was abuzz with anticipation as locals and park visitors flocked to experience the tantalizing flavors that awaited them.
As guests approached the food truck, their eyes were instantly captivated by the striking, hand-painted logo adorning the exterior. A work of art created by Felix’s talented brother, Salvador, the logo is a tribute to their beloved mother, a cherished source of inspiration who still resides in Oaxaca, Mexico.
La Oaxaquena sets itself apart through its dishes, primarily Tlayudas, an Oaxacan dish of a large, thin, crunchy toasted tortilla covered with a spread of refried beans, asiento (unrefined pork lard), cabbage, avocado, meat (usually shredded chicken, beef tenderloin or pork), Oaxaca cheese, and salsa.
The rest of the menu includes the usual Mexican fare, such as tacos (including the ever-popular birria tacos), quesadillas, burritos, tortas, sides, and drinks.
So, next time you’re around Cooper River Park on the weekends, look for the La Oaxaquena trailer for outstanding Mexican food. Follow them on Instagram for updates.
