Umile Trattoria Haddonfield

Umile Trattoria in Haddonfield is Now Open for Lunch and Dinner (Click for Menus)

If you recall, I was a bit presumptuous about announcing the opening of Umile Trattoria in Haddonfield.

You see, I “went public” with that initial date because the owners were so excited and eager to open, and they honestly thought it was going to be in September, but they had a couple of last minute things they had to deal with. Understandably so. Opening a restaurant is NOT easy, even though the owners make it look that way.

Their original plan was to open in the summer, but it was derailed by many things out of their control. Most of what delayed the opening was mechanical in nature – they needed to re-engineer a new vent system! This set them back a couple of months and added to an already high budget.

They built a brand new kitchen – including a steam-injected, three-deck Moretti Forni pizza oven imported from Italy. Those things are NOT cheap. Like I said, it’s not easy to open a restaurant, and chefs Walter Gouldsbury III and David Murray have very high standards. Despite the name (“ooh-mee-lay”) meaning “humble” in Italian, they strive to be “the best” they can be, right down to all of the equipment they use, the ingredients they source for the dishes, and the techniques employed.

Those standards will be on full display for lunch and dinner at the new “comfortable” Italian-inspired eatery located on at 211 Kings Highway East, which officially soft opened on Wednesday, October 8th.

At the helm of the kitchen is Philadelphia-based Executive Chef Ricky Coppick, who comes with extensive experience in the Marc Vetri restaurant organization, among other Philadelphia establishments.

They recently started sharing highlights on the Instagram page. So far, there isn’t a website or Facebook page. Will let you know if/when that changes.

In the meantime, here is the Umile Trattoria dinner menu.
