MARCH 2026 UPDATE: After plans for the original Matteo’s location fell through, the owners secured a new space just down the road that better aligns with their vision. The business has signed a lease for the former Rustico Italian Restaurant property at 687–689 Berlin Cross Keys Road (next to Gouldsburger’s) and expects to open in the near future.
A new destination for bold, modern Indian cuisine is coming to Sicklerville. Banjara Indian Bistro is preparing to open at 673 Berlin Cross Keys Road, bringing vibrant flavors, warm hospitality, and contemporary style to the former Matteo’s Deli location.
The restaurant is the newest concept from Vaneet Chopra, a respected name in South Jersey’s Indian food scene and the owner of Cross Culture in Haddonfield, which has been serving acclaimed Indian cuisine for more than 17 years. With Banjara, Chopra is expanding his vision—offering a fresh, modern take on Indian food while maintaining the depth of flavor and authenticity that has defined his long-running success.
Banjara Indian Bistro will be a full-service restaurant designed to feel warm, welcoming, and stylish, blending bold Indian flavors with a modern, upbeat atmosphere. The restaurant will also be BYOB, making it an ideal spot for both casual dinners and celebratory nights out.
Chopra recently took possession of the space and plans to complete minor updates and renovations to transform the former Italian deli into a bistro that reflects Banjara’s contemporary aesthetic. Once complete, guests can expect comfortable indoor seating and an inviting environment serving delicious Indian fare.
If all goes according to plan, Banjara Indian Bistro is targeting an opening by April, giving Sicklerville residents something exciting to look forward to this spring.
