A popular Latin Caribbean restaurant is making its way across the bridge. BŪCCANN, the Oxford Circle favorite known for its bold fusion of Latin and American flavors, is opening a second location at 6225 Westfield Avenue in Pennsauken, NJ, formerly Macaro’s Deli.
Owner Sal Nunez, originally from the Dominican Republic, has decades of experience. After time in New York and Boston, he settled in Philadelphia more than 20 years ago. In 2017, he opened BŪCCANN in Oxford Circle, transitioning from a background in construction and a pizzeria owner into a thriving restaurant operator.
Upon a recent chat at the restaurant, Nunez shared that food is his passion. That passion has translated into a concept that blends traditional Latin Caribbean cooking—rooted in Dominican, Puerto Rican, and Cuban influences—with familiar American favorites.
The move to Pennsauken isn’t accidental—it’s strategic. For years, customers from South Jersey, particularly around Pennsauken, have made the trip into Philadelphia for BŪCCANN’s distinctive offerings. Now, Nunez is returning the favor.
“I had customers coming in from New Jersey for years,” he explained to South Jersey Food Scene. “So I decided to look across the bridge to be closer to those customers and new ones.”
Nunez’s background in construction is playing a major role in bringing the Pennsauken space to life. He is personally overseeing the design and build-out, incorporating handcrafted details throughout the restaurant. Working alongside his son, Jeff, the space will feature custom woodwork and an inviting atmosphere that reflects the restaurant’s vibrant personality.

BŪCCANN’s menu centers around what Nunez calls “real Spanish food,” highlighting authentic Latin Caribbean flavors that go beyond common assumptions.
“When people hear Caribbean, they often think Jamaican,” he said. “But we focus on Spanish Caribbean cuisine—Dominican, Puerto Rican, and Cuban—which is very different.”
Guests can expect a wide-ranging menu featuring Latin classics alongside American comfort staples, all infused with Caribbean flair. Steaks, seafood, and hearty entrées will be rounded out by a festive weekend brunch service. Like the original location, the Pennsauken restaurant will also offer a full bar with beer, wine, and tropical-inspired cocktails.
With infrastructure already in place, construction is expected to move quickly. If all goes according to plan, BŪCCANN aims to open its Pennsauken doors by the end of June, just in time for the summer dining season.
