I’m back with another edition of The Cottage Corner, where I spotlight cottage food operators in South Jersey. Next, let’s explore The Hobby Hutch based in Folsom, NJ.
In a world where side hustles often begin as small experiments, Nicole Stewart’s journey into entrepreneurship feels both organic and inspiring. As a home baker working under the name The Hobby Hutch, she has transformed a creative outlet into a growing cottage food business.
Before launching her venture, Nicole spent twelve years working as a wedding planner—an industry that thrives on detail, design, and memorable experiences. But after stepping away from her career to raise her family, and also as a work-from-home accountant for a family-run construction business, she found herself craving a creative escape. That spark came in the form of homemade treats.
What began as cake pops and sweets for her children’s birthday celebrations quickly turned into something more. Nicole discovered she genuinely loved the process—from designing and decorating to experimenting with flavors and presentation. Friends and family soon took notice, and word-of-mouth recommendations soon followed. Requests began to roll in, and what was once a hobby steadily evolved into a business.
In June 2025, Nicole officially launched The Hobby Hutch, specializing in custom cake pops and chocolate-covered treats. Over the past year, she has built a loyal following by delivering visually stunning and delicious creations tailored for birthdays, parties, and special occasions. Her work reflects both precision and personality—each order crafted with care and creativity.
Now, The Hobby Hutch is entering an exciting new phase. Beginning in May, Nicole will introduce a charming “little pink refrigerator stand” in Folsom, offering a rotating selection of cake pops, baked goods, and sweet treats to the local community. The stand represents not just a new sales channel, but a physical extension of her brand—approachable, fun, and rooted in neighborhood connection.
For Nicole, the journey has been as rewarding as the product itself. What started as a personal outlet has grown into a business that brings joy to others while allowing her to balance family life and creativity on her own terms.
