New Jersey Wine Month Spotlight: Saddlehill Winery

As November commemorates New Jersey Wine Month, Saddlehill Winery and Farmhouse Kitchen in Voorhees takes center stage—celebrating South Jersey’s blend of heritage, hospitality, and agritourism in one picturesque setting.

From Historic Farm to Modern Winery

Nestled on a 70-acre estate at 1407 White Horse Road, Saddlehill occupies land once known as Stafford Farm, a property with deep roots in local history. After the Revolutionary War, the Stafford family owned and farmed the land for generations, eventually earning distinction for harness-racing horses.

Since Bill Green purchased the property in 2021, it has transformed into a thriving winery, restaurant, and event venue—all while honoring its history. Furthermore, much of the land is officially designated as preserved farmland by the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, ensuring it continues to serve its agricultural purpose for generations to come.

What Makes Saddlehill Unique

Farm-to-Table Dining
At the heart of Saddlehill is the Farmhouse Kitchen, where ingredients grown on the property—fresh vegetables, herbs, and orchard fruits—find their way onto every plate. The elegant dining room, which seats up to 400 guests, serves lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, making it a standout in the local dining scene.

Vineyard Tours & Tastings
Guests can enjoy guided vineyard tours, sample estate-crafted wines, or take in the countryside charm on a wagon ride through the vines. Fun fact: Saddlehill is the closest winery to Center City Philadelphia—just 11 miles or 20 minutes away!

Social & Private Events
From paint nights and floral workshops to charcuterie classes and bingo, Saddlehill’s event calendar is lively and diverse. The venue also welcomes bookings for private celebrations, weddings, and corporate gatherings.

Farm Animals
Visitors can meet the resident alpacas, horses, and chickens, adding to the farm’s welcoming and agrarian atmosphere.

Stay the Night
An on-site guesthouse, available via Airbnb, lets visitors extend their stay and experience the property at a slower pace.

A Taste of Saddlehill

During a recent Sunday brunch, we sampled a variety of dishes showcasing the creativity of Executive Chef Ivan Reyes. Each item reflected the seasonality and freshness of the estate’s harvest—proving that Saddlehill’s culinary program is as impressive as its wines. The wines deserve their own feature so be on the lookout for that in the future. Not to mention, we will absolutely be returning for dinner sometime. Rest assured we enjoyed a tasting of four varieties each of Saddlehill’s red and white wines and they were all exceptional.

Pastrami-Style Wings and Truffle Parm Fries

This duo is sure to impress even the most discerning food lover. The pastrami wings burst with bold flavor thanks to the pastrami-inspired dry rub and zesty Thousand Island dipping sauce, while the truffle parmesan fries deliver an irresistible mix of salty, garlicky, and umami-rich goodness—each bite perfectly balanced and utterly addictive.

Fried Cauliflower

Saddlehill elevates its farmgrown cauliflower to new heights—crispy, golden-fried, and tossed with a zingy Thousand Island sauce for a flavorful twist on a simple favorite.

Farm Frittata and Vineyard Breakfast Sandwich

Both the Farm Frittata and the Vineyard Breakfast Sandwich are made with fresh eggs sourced from Saddlehill’s own chickens. The frittata combines butternut squash, kale, caramelized onions, tomato, and Gruyère cheese, paired with perfectly crisp home fries—the same golden potatoes that accompany the hearty breakfast sandwich.

Apple Cobbler

Yes, even brunch deserves a sweet ending! We indulged in a comforting apple cobbler made with apples freshly picked from the farm’s own orchard. Served warm with creamy vanilla gelato and perfectly complemented by a glass of Saddlehill’s signature port wine, it was the ideal finish to a memorable meal.

Take Saddlehill Home

Saddlehill offers several varieties of bottled wines in the wine shop as well as a market/gift shop featuring many items sourced from and crafted directly on the farm such as honey (made from its own apiary), homemade jams, sauces, soy and beeswax candles, and even personal care items.

Why It Matters

While New Jersey might not immediately come to mind as “wine country,” destinations like Saddlehill are redefining the region’s wine scene. The estate offers a local, approachable alternative to more distant wine regions—blending accessibility with authenticity and a deep respect for the land.

New Jersey Wine Month encourages residents and visitors alike to explore the state’s growing viticulture and winemaking industry, helping to sustain and celebrate local producers.
